Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing this! You’ve articulated many of my thoughts. I was just thinking of that Margret Atwood quote and then it was there in the next line! There needs to be a bigger conversation about how “self care” and all efforts to be beautiful can never be solely “for ourselves,” as well as the impact of complimenting women and girls on their appearance. I grew up with a mother who avoided doing so and, while I have a myriad of appearance-related neuroses now, the deemphasis on my appearance in my childhood spared me for so many years from associating my value with my looks. This was a great read and I loved the artwork you chose!
thank you thank you! i hope to write more about “self care” specifically, and the consumerism that is feeding off of the patriarchy. thank you for sharing your thoughts, means so much xx
so painfully relevant, my heart aches in the resonating words you preach in this beautiful piece.

What a wonderful read! I also love the Margaret Atwood quote I hadn’t heard it before.
thank you so much :) and the atwood quote is one of my favourites (if not my all-time favourite). it keeps me up at night with my feminist agenda lol!
